Great place to get some delicious and affordable food. The staff is friendly and always welcomes customers at the door. Visited the this restaurant recently with Andrea for a quick breakfast before heading to work.
Our server was a young man full of smiles, we were seated and had menus in our hands in seconds. I ordered a dish with scrambled eggs, refried beans and rice. Andrea had steak, pouched eggs and refried beans. Both entrees were delicious, seasoned very well. My beans were warm and hearty while my soft, fluffy eggs were perfect.
We washed everything down with a cappuccino and cafe con leche. It was a great meal to have to start the day and would certainly recommend this business!
This place has great Colombian food at a great price. I always get the mango with milk drink every time I stop by here. Empanadas are cheaper than other places so it's a great place to snack on. The restaurant itself is clean and have lots of tables. There is a bakery bar and a drinks bar inside as well.
This restaurant is absolutely wonderful!!! The food is incredible, the prices are great and the staff make you feel as though you are family. My family and I celebrated a recent birthday dinner here and we had an amazing time!!! Will definitely go back!
I had a great time with my family. The staff was very pleasant and welcoming. They made me feel at home. It took about 10 minutes to be served. The food was delicious and they served a big portion that was more than enough for me and my daughter. The staff was very attentive to us making sure everything was ok and if we needed anything. I will definitely visit again. I highly recommend this place. It's very clean and neat. They have three flat screen tv. You can watch tv while you eat. A very comfortable environment.
The best place (for me) in Hackensack for Colombian food! Good homestyle cooking, decent service, and reasonable prices! Empanadas are awesome! The Bandeja Paisa always pleases! Try a Patacon! Nothing fancy, just good food!
My friend and I stopped by an early light dinner. The fresh juices selection is amazing!!! All natural!! We shared empanadas and they were delicious, crispy and fresh. We were hesitant about the spicy sauce because it looked different than what it traditionally does but let me tell you it did not disappoint us! The service was great, the staff was attentive and prompt. Super causal place and great for groups! Didn't have a chance to the desserts but I heard they are delicious.
The only negative was that the salad we ordered this not specify what ingredients it included so I thought it would look like the picture and it did not. So if you're in the mood for a salad ask them what it comes with so you don't have any disappointments.
There's not parking but the meters can be used for two hours.
I've been to the restaurant 3 times in the past two months and the food has been excellent every time. The portions are generous and the taste is delightful. The prices are very reasonable and the servers are very pleasant!
Really great bakery! Love their pastries and the coffee always hits the spot. I have a Keurig and I'll still walk over and grab a cup and a pan de bono.
The food itself is really tasty. Their citrus chicken sandwich is so juicy and it comes w fries but you can sub them out for yucca or platano if you want.
Really happy I can have my Colombian sodas too here!
Definately looking forward to trying the rest of the stuff on their main menu considering that it doesn't really break the bank anyway. Most meals are about $12-13 and as low as $9.
(I added a pic above) All of this food plus yuca fries and an empanada came to under $30 which shocked us because of the quality of the food. The food took about 15-20 minutes and was so worth it because you could see and taste that it was freshly made. My boyfriend orders bandeja paisa from everywhere and said it was one of the best he's ever had. Also the Hawaiian empanada was delicious and avocado was fresh. Will definitely be coming back :)
This is a great, family friendly place. The food is fresh and authentic Colombian. Great pan de bono and empanadas. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. My kids ask to go there all of the time. I particularly love the arroz con pollo. The daily lunch specials are great as well. The fresh squeezed juices are amazing.
Citrus Caf is an excellent Colombian restaurant. I have been there many times and is a really good place. The atmosphere is great and relaxed, is very casual and the staff is friendly and attentive.
It has a wonderful bakery as part of te restaurant and they have the best Colombian coffee and empanadas ever. They also have the special of the day and it is almways different. My favorite is chicken soup with grilled ckicken, rice and salad.
Food is always fresh and worth your money.
I like their menu because is very organized, with pictures and descriptions for people who don't speak Spanish. Is not very big and you should definitely eat Citrus Salad, I trayed it this afternoon and it was so good. It's really wonderful.
The desserts are their speciality, I love rice pudding!!!!!! And Is not very expensive, is one of my favorites places to eat the tipical Colombian food.
Favorite local Colombian restaurant! The customer service here is more one on one than the chain restaurants. The food is very good!
Very casual. Good cafe con leche. Reminds me more of a coffee shop, but serves some classic Columbian food as well.
Great casual spot to get a bite to eat. Delicious cafe con Leche and I loved the maduros con queso!
Love this place!!! My family has been going to this Restaurant for years and we absolutely love the food, atmosphere, and service.
Variety of foods
Good food, good lunch specials and friendly service.
I just happened to be in the neighborhood with my 4 year old daughter. She always wants rice and chicken, so I decided on Colombian. I was greeted immediately and served. The empanadas were crunchy and different from what I'm used to, but still good. The chicken and rice though was AMAZING, especially with the beans! Awesome surprise, and I will be bringing others next time!
Newly renovated columbian restaurant .

I ordered the lemon filet fish , empanadas, rice and beans . Blackberry milk shake is excellent .
Overall very good experience .
Very good Colombia Food ,
Very good food
Me and my wife were driving by and decided to stop by since it was a new place. We love eating Spanish food anywhere we go NY or NJ. Really nice place with amazing food. We were going to get food to go but really liked the place and decided to stay. Great service very attentive. I've eaten Spanish food everywhere and this food had lot of taste and was fresh like that homemade flavor. Loved it. Love the place and ambiance. Recommend it over many other Colombian and Spanish food places you will have.
I love their bakery department. The breads and traditional Colombian baked goods are amazing. They also have a wide array of empanadas. The restaurant looks very clean and the staff is very friendly.
best home made style Colombian food,,, best coffee in town. love their grill chicken.
Fresh, authentic Colombian food and friendly service in this family-run restaurant. So happy to see it return after a fire that closed it down. Healthy juices and empanadas that taste just like the homemade ones my mother-in-law makes. If you're craving Colombian comfort food, definitely worth a visit.
A Columbian friend took us there. It turns out that our friend has a connection with Sandra the owner in Medillin. The food was delicious. I had a salad with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, almonds, raisins, and a lemon vinaigrette dressing. The empanadas were also excellent. Finally, I had a meringue for dessert - also excellent.
We will return.
Excellent Colombian bakery/cafe/restaurant. Very clean, good help, and the food is authentic.
My family stumbled upon this restaurant on our way home from bowling. What a great find! As other reviewers said, the empanadas and baked goods are good (we tried a beef empanada and a donut with caramel). They were very accommodating to my 3 year olds - brought them crayons and had kids meals on the menu.
My dish was delicious! I forget the exact name. It's paisa in a bowl. The first layer is beans, then rice, then ground beef, then sausage mixed with fried pork. With a side of avocado. Yum! Would definitely order again.
We are heartbroken! A fire gutted our favorite place in the 'sack and we don't know how ti get in touch w our fave family. Jorge. ...get in touch w gary and lydia and let us know you are all safe!!!!! Lliebchen@aol.com
As a proud Colombian, I gotta say, absolutely love this place. Everything is super fresh and deliciosio!! My fave is the iced coffee. I know, I know, I can get that anywhere. But if you watch them make it, it's unique. Fresh juices are sooooo good!!! Que sigue el orguillo Colombiano! (Only 4 stars because the parking can be an issue) (although not their fault)
We were heartbroken when a fire shut the business.
But on a lark, we drove by and it was open again!
We stopped in for Coffee, empanadas, and a variety of baked goods for a family gathering and were not disappointed. I'm hoping they are open today so we can enjoy desayuno again.
Good luck to the rebuilt Citrus!
Absolutely blown away. Passion fruit, papaya, and guava milkshakes?! You've gotta be kidding me. The Hawaiian empanadas are ridiculously the best thing I've ever consumed over the course of my 20 years in this world. All of this coming at a minimal price! Unreal. The servers, management, and this one delivery guy may just be the most personable people in the land. What a great experience it was listening to classic Colombian music, I came out of the restaurant speaking near fluent Spanish. I'm bringing all friends, family, classmates, and teachers here for my next birthday party. Boom
I feel like I found a hidden gem in Hackensack. We went in for dinner on Sunday night the place has a quaint, welcoming atmosphere. We started with 4 empanadas a cheese, chicken, beef & a Hawaiian. All 4 were excellent hard to pick which one was the best they were that good! For the main course I had the bandeja paisa bring your appetite the plate had red beans and rice, steak, chorizo, plantains, arepa, avocado and an egg wow !!! My wife had the pechuga gratinada two chicken breast with tomato and melted mozzarella in a pink cream sauce. Both meals were really good we can't wait to go back. I have to mention the service which was great from the time we walked in the door till we left everyone was friendly and attentive. I almost forgot to mention it is a BYOB.
I've only been here two times, and only once for a full blown meal, but based on these two times, I will def. be making this a place I go to frequently. This place is located on Main street, between a bunch of other great restaurants, many of them Colombian, and about 3 blocks away from where a Noches de Colombia will be opening. So needless to say, they have a lot of competition. However, Citrus sets itself apart from those already there, and sets a good standing place for itself before Noches comes in and tries to take over the area.
Let's start with their coffee: the only place in the area that makes a great caf con leche, although Pollos Mario is a close 2nd, Colombia Bakery falls short, and Bohemia and Vilas I have not tried.
Empanadas de Carne (yellow corn meal stuffed with meat and potatoes) on the 1st visit: Pollos Mario empanadas are wack (sorry) Colombia Bakery's are wack (sorry) but Citrus was flavorful and very meaty. I hate when the empanadas are just potato with a bit of meat. I also had a cheese empanada (made from flour discs) and it was not cheap with the cheese, which makes for a great cheese empanada.
On my 1st visit, we also had a chicharron dulce - it's a flaky pastry stuffed with guava. If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with Guava, and this one is great. Sometimes noches (in Englewood) are so old the Guava can be crusty. Everything else looked great, though I wasn't able to try it.
My 2nd visit, my husband and I went for breakfast after the lovely blizzard of 2016. He had a Calentado(Rice and beans, refried and mixed together) with Huevos Pericos (sort of like scrambled eggs except you scramble inside of the pan, not in a bowl) and Carne Asada (Steak), I had Calentado and Carne Asada. The steak was juicy and flavorful, the calentado was delicious, just like my momma's. My husband enjoyed his eggs. We also ordered an AREPA DE CHOCOLO CON QUESO (Sweet corn patty with white cheese) - the arepa was amazing. It's very hard to find a good arepa, very easy to find a crappy one. This one was perfect, heated up perfectly, not chewy like most places make them, and the perfect amount of sweet. I also had a caf con leche while my husband had a delicious (Colombian style) hot chocolate.
The best part of the meal came when we received the check. Honestly, Citrus, raise the price on most things by a dollar!!!! I'd still come back and pay the price. Everything was so cheap. (My calentado $7, my husbands $8, Arepa $4, Coffee $1, Chocolate $1)
We are so happy to find a good Colombian place in our neighborhood, and will def. keep returning. I hope they continue to gain a following in the area.
Empanadas are near perfect and can't beat the price
I get my empanadas here ALL THE TIME. Delicious, crispy, and generous with the filling. Wonderful owner and staff too!
I love the empanadas they are all awesome I have no problem with this place I went with a couple of friends one day and we ordered lots of them. They did not have all the empanadas we wanted but they went and made more.
I really enjoyed my meal here. The steak was very good and the coffee is strong! Definitely recommend if Your in the mood for Colombian
I've only had the empanadas, and they are fantastic. Crisp shell and salty gooey filling. Only $1!
I've had their cheese, ham/pineapple, and caramel cheese. All were delicious. And they are huge, too. About the size of your hand. A bit greasy, though.
Excellent Colombian food right in the heart of Hackensack. Citrus Cafe brings the right touch of modern flavors to typical Colombian dishes.
Try the homemade Morcilla. Yum!
